Tyr Spotting & Vision Guide: Asymmetric Detection

How Tyr's asymmetric vision works: spot sharing, minimap circles, camouflage by vehicle class, bushes, and breaking concealment.

Case Answer Community Answer

Tyr vision is asymmetric: you only see an enemy once you or a teammate has actively spotted them, and the same applies in reverse. Two minimap circles track your spotting range and your detection radius, and concealment depends on vehicle class and terrain.

Tactical Overview

Vision in Tyr is asymmetric. You and your enemies don’t automatically see each other: you only see an enemy if you or a teammate has actively spotted them, and the same rule applies in reverse. This guide explains the mechanics as documented by the community at Tyr HQ.

Spot Sharing

When you or a teammate spots an enemy, that enemy becomes visible to your entire team, not just the spotter. The same applies in reverse: if any enemy spots you, your position is shared with all of them.

This makes active spotters extremely valuable even if they aren’t dealing damage. A teammate pushing forward to spot enemies can give your whole team a significant advantage.

An enemy can be watching you even when you can’t see them. Watch for the spotted icon on your HUD — it means your position is known to the enemy team, even if you can’t see who spotted you.

Your Minimap Circles

Two white circles on the minimap tell you everything about your vision state:

  • Dotted white circle — your spotting range. Enemies inside this range can be spotted by you.
  • Solid white circle — your detection radius. Enemies who get within this circle can spot you. Smaller = harder to detect.

The ideal position: keep enemies inside your dotted circle while staying outside theirs. When that’s true, you have vision on them — but they can’t spot you.

Camouflage & Vehicle Class

Not all vehicles are equally easy to spot. Camouflage determines how close an enemy needs to get before a vehicle shows up:

  • Light and medium tanks have high camouflage — harder to spot. You may need to get significantly closer before they appear.
  • Heavy tanks have low camouflage — easier to spot. They show up from further away within your vision range.

Using Bushes

Bushes are a powerful tool for staying hidden. When you drive into a bush, your solid circle — your detection radius — shrinks, meaning enemies must get much closer before they can spot you.

Drive into a bush and watch your solid circle shrink on the minimap. Firing from a bush momentarily expands your circle, making you easier to spot. Plan your shots carefully.

Breaking Concealment & Going Dark

Being spotted isn’t permanent, but spots don’t fall off instantly — there’s a 7-second cooldown once either of these conditions is met:

  • Breaking line of sight — move behind terrain, buildings, or cover so the enemy can no longer draw a direct line to you.
  • Getting distance — move outside the spotting enemy’s view radius.

Don’t drive into open spaces without a plan. Hidden enemies can spot you before you see them — and their entire team will have your position.

Additional Notes

Some tanks and ammunition types interact with vision in unique ways. See the individual tank entries in the vehicle database for details. Stoke Games has not published exact detection distances, so numeric ranges are deliberately not restated here.
